A Man on a Mission
"Inspect what you expect," an old army adage which suggests one oversee the process for that which he would have
others do, is the method by which Robert Dothard, fitness expert, has patterned his personal life, his professional
endeavors, and his efforts of offering a healthy lifestyle to all who cross his path. By the grace of an active past,
his unyielding total wellness ministry in the present, and optimistic visions for a healthy America in the future,
Robert Dothard, affectionately referred to as "Trainer Bob," has authoritatively demanded we change our life habits
and is there to ensure we do it correctly, permanently, and effectively.
A military man, Mr. James M. Dothard, and his loving wife in Williamsburg, Virginia raised Robert Dothard. Both parents were GOD-fearing,
hard workers who instilled the values of a strong work ethic, healthy living and the importance of spiritual wellness
to their son. Trainer Bob carried with him these values as an athlete, a personal trainer, a martial arts expert, a
motivational speaker and as a budding entrepreneur.
Trainer Bob flourished in an active lifestyle at an early age. From 1976-1980, he learned a variety of sports like
boxing, raquetball, and basketball at a military base near to where he lived with his family. In the early to mid 80s,
Robert played soccer, basketball, tennis, ran track, and he swam; some of these activities were at the Division One
level. By the late 80s and for the next 10 years, Trainer Bob found his calling; he would go on to create his personal
philosophy of the components of total wellness and spread this gospel by way of personally training his congregation.
Working as the messenger of Fitness, Trainer Bob recruited for such companies as Sports Life®, opened the first
Gold's Gym® in Georgia, was a representative for Crunch®, Australian Body Works-now L.A. Fitness®--and
currently owns a Fitness Together franchise. He has combined his in-gym instruction with that of personal appearances
to spread the message of total wellness. Robert has been a guest lecturer in Elementary, Middle, and High schools and
has done over 100 broadcast and print media segments on health and fitness. He also continues to be a pioneer in his
field as a recognized fitness expert after having been the first male step instructor in history.
Sadly, Robert Dothard's success and the accomplishment of his goals have come at a price. Because Americans are the
most lethargic, overweight, unhealthy beings on the planet-1/3 of the population is obese, meaning we have 30% or more
body fat and/or are 30lbs or more overweight-Trainer Bob is doing well in his field. People who continue to put more
value in their commitments than in their health, do not create realistic goals for a lifestyle change thus never try
or quit, and do not live honestly or have the best intentions disappoint Robert by perpetuating the need for people
in his field. Yet despite the obstacles, Trainer Bob remains passionate about his cause by listening and valuing the
experiences of his clients; he finds purpose in helping and becoming a part of their uniqueness, and he lives as an
example to dispel myths that being intelligent and physically fit is oxymoronic.
With all that he has encountered in the past, and roadblocks he's overcome in the present, many ask what Trainer
Bob has planned for the future. His answer? He will change nothing. Robert hopes that continuing to provide the most
accurate, pure-free from gimmick-unyielding, message of health, fitness, and an active lifestyle will motivate people
to ask questions. It is his prayer that while they seek answers and sort out the information they are given, they will
begin to change their habits without regard to the effort it takes. More than anything, Robert Dothard still plans to
be around to make sure that they do it and do it right!
